EXPERIENCE

John has extensive trial and appellate experience and has appeared in many cases related to insurance, banking, revenue and numerous other areas of law.

John has appeared in lengthy trials including for Samsung in the Samsung v Apple litigation (2013-2014), for the Chief Commissioner in relation to the recovery of land rich duty on the sale of the Sydney Airport (2010-2012) and in various aspects of the Pan Pharmaceuticals litigation (2009-2010 and again 2013).

John was recently involved in a number of insolvency recovery actions for liquidators of companies wound up for non-payment of tax (BCI Finances Pty Limited (in liq) v Binetter (No 4) [2016] FCA 1351).

He has had many years’ experience dealing with technical expert evidence involving complex damages calculations, business valuations, statistical models and engineering evidence.

John has also been involved in various class/representative actions matters from when the procedure first came in for the Federal Court, most recently for the claimants against Cash Converters in the Federal Court.

John also frequently advises on complex insurance issues and conducts Expert Determinations (as the expert).
